Making Computer Science Part of K-12 Education, Today!

In eight years, our current 8th grade student in Massachusetts could graduate from college without having taken one Computer Science course in his/her education career! Massachusetts doesn't have Computer Science Education Standards, nor do we offer access to CS courses in schools across the state to solve the CS / STEM Pipeline issue. How can we expose students and build their interests in CS if it is absent from their... more »

Make mentoring a priority throughout the Commonwealth

Following the lead of the MIT VMS and Valley Venture Mentors in Springfield, support mentoring organizations that can be the catalyst for startup communities throughout the Commnwealth. These organizations are lean and leverage the support of seasoned entrepreneurs to propel new entrepreneurs to success. If done correctly, a mentoring organization becomes the "tip of the spear" that creates an entrepreneurial ecosystem... more »

Eliminate Noncompete Agreements in Massachusetts

Eliminating noncompete agreements is likely the only actionable change that once enacted would overnight produce an orders of magnitude benefit to the technology ecosystem in Massachusetts. Noncompete agreements prevent emerging startups from hiring the experienced talent they need in order to grow and prosper. Noncompete agreements prevent a talented employee from moving to another company that needs and values... more »

Keep local talent in Boston/Cambridge

Create a competition between local Universities to solve local problems. Design the competition to deeply engage mentors from the local start-up community and thought leaders from local Corporations. Mandate government to work with the competition to build the community and leverage talent to innovate and solve local problems. 1. Engage students early to eliminate the disconnect between Schools, government and... more »

To Fully Support MassChallenge

There is no arguing that MassChallenge has fomented a startup culture in the Innovation District. From about $5M in total funding, the 361 MassChallenge alumni have collectively raised over $362M in outside funding, generated over $100M in revenue, and created over 3,000 jobs since 2010. They might be the most successful non-profit job creator in history. And that was their learning curve! Yet MassChallenge is needing... more »

Facilitate hiring youth

To create a strong ecosystem in Massachusetts, I would help people launching their careers establish their professional reputation. The biggest hurdle to getting that first job is showing that you are reliable, responsible, will show up on time and do what you said you would. HelpAroundTown is a free job board designed to help youth and anyone entering the job market establish their reliability. Our free job board generates... more »

Creating Today and Tomorrows STEM Workforce

We are directly solving a MA problem related to the high tech economy: workforce development. We are propelling students with the passion and skills for technology and innovation and family or college roots in MA. Most efforts fall short because of limited scale or a lack of sustainability. Others focus solely on the Math and Science without engaging connections to Engineering and Technology. The College of Engineering... more »

Treat our students like talented NCAA Division 1 recruits

Our greatest, most precious talent shows up every September and disappears every June. Our student population across our dozens of universities represent the future leaders in innovation and entrepreneurship. Yet, by and large, we do nothing to make them feel welcome. Other communities would kill to have this talent spending 2-4 years in our community. We need a more aggressive, systematic recruiting process to convince... more »

Minimize use of preprinted paper forms while saving money

As a state approved contractor working with several state agencies, we have discovered many state agencies use abundance paper forms like License applications, benefit forms etc. Copies are distributed for processing, and approved paper copies are filed and stored. Our solution allows applicants to fill a browser-enabled PDF file, electronically sign and submit with added documents- online. Agencies will have access to... more »

"Idea Czar"

We need to encourage people in the Commonwealth to share their ideas and create momentum around the very best ideas. I submit that we have a single point of contact, an "Idea Czar" This person will understand the Commonwealth's priorities and run new ideas through a filter to determine which ideas support growth. i.e. "Could a million $ investment in our Robotics industry create Robots that paint our bridges and save... more »

Improve bicycle safety and public transportation

Young, energetic, hi-tech workers thrive in urban environments and a significant percentage of them favor public transit and bicycles. Making biking more safe and public transit more reliable would be a huge lifestyle and economic boost for this sector of the workforce. Our co recently moved from Davis Sq to Newton and 10 former bike commuters now drive to work. :(
